The Man Behind Nepal’s Finest Tibetan Rugs — Mr. Man Kumar Tamang

When you think of luxurious, handcrafted Nepalese Tibetan rugs, one visionary name stands out — Mr. Man Kumar Tamang, Founder and Chief Design Officer of Rugs Luxury. His work honors Tibetan-Nepali heritage while shaping contemporary luxury interiors worldwide.

A Humble Beginning: From Dolakha to Design Visionary

Born on June 4, 1974, in the peaceful village of Phulbari Ghumti, Dolakha, Mr. Tamang grew up far from the global world of design. At age 15, he moved to Kathmandu seeking opportunity and a brighter future.

While continuing his education, he enrolled in a professional carpet design program — the moment that sparked a lifelong passion.

Crafting a Master Career in Tibetan Rug Design

His dedication soon led him to a senior designer role in a leading carpet company. From 2000–2003, he completed an advanced training program in carpet design organized by the Nepal Carpet Association, in partnership with GTZ and JICA.

Over the years, he trained under international master designers, refining both technique and artistic vision. Between 1994 and 2008, his contemporary designs gained strong popularity across Europe and the United States.

Founding Rugs Luxury: Heritage Meets Modern Luxury

After more than a decade in leadership roles, Mr. Tamang founded Rugs Luxury — a studio built on:

  • artistic freedom

  • ethical craftsmanship

  • preservation of hand-knotting traditions

Each rug is created using premium Himalayan wool and natural silk, carefully hand-knotted by skilled artisans.

Together with his wife, Kinjo Dolma Lama, he built a company rooted in community, fair practice, and sustainability — values woven into every piece.
